Richmond stamps

The passport story so far…

The Coast to Coast’s official Passport stamping initiative is administrated by Richmond Yorkshire Community Interest Company (CIC), a non-profit distribution company Limited by Guarantee with nine volunteer directors based in the beautiful Georgian market town of Richmond, North Yorkshire.

Anyone familiar with the route will know that the town is regarded as the main ‘halfway point’ between St Bees and Robin Hood’s Bay; the perfect location for overseeing the Passport. Richmond is the largest stopover location on the trail and has become a logistics hub for much Coast to Coast activity.

Pointing walkers in the right direction…

The 40+ volunteers at the town’s award-winning Information Centre, which is an integral part of the CIC, are very familiar with helping C2C walkers; listening to their walking stories; sympathising with their aches and pains and pointing them in the right direction for a decent coffee, a clean public toilet, or the best place to buy new socks. Some can even claim to have been serving the needs of walkers on this famous trek since it was first mapped out by Wainwright in the mid-1970s!

Many of the Information Centre’s 35,000 annual visitors are coast to coast walkers and it’s the personal contact with so many of them that first inspired the idea of launching the Coast to Coast Passport to commemorate the route’s much-deserved National Trail status.

Our Passport Partners…

This website for the Official Coast to Coast Passport, has been made possible with the financial help and support of North Yorkshire Council, the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and the North York Moors National Park, Westmorland and Furness Council and Cumberland Council. The Coast to Coast Passport has also been fully endorsed by The Wainwright Society who also made a contribution to get the ball rolling.

A portion of surpluses generated through the sale of the Passport each year will be used to assist the continuing work of the Wainwright Society and the future maintenance of the Coast to Coast through the Northern National Trails Partnership, part of English Nature.

Richmond Yorkshire CIC and all its partners are committed to using this not-for-profit initiative to help promote one of the UK’s most popular national trails and maintain the path well into the future.
