Fun Facts about the Coast to Coast

The highest point of the route (Kidsty Pike in Cumbria) stands at 2,560 feet,
or 780 metres) which is the equivalent of two Eiffel Towers!

50 years on and it’s estimated there are at least 6000 people
following in those legendary footsteps every year!

In 1972 Wainwright wrote: ‘I want to encourage the ambition in others to devise with the aid of maps their own cross-country marathons and not be merely followers of other people’s routes.’ Yet follow him we do!!

The current record holder for the fastest time to complete the route is Gloucestershire runner,
Damien Hall (39 hours, 18 minutes and 33 seconds).

In 2004 a panel of hiking experts named the route as the second-best long distance walk in the world, ranking it above Everest and the Inca Trail.

No-one knows what the longest time has been to complete all 192 miles – it’s the doing it and finishing that counts!!
